oh, I love board games.
Risk. Monopoly. Chess(if you want to call it one).

I used to like Clue, but my family got it down so well by the end of the game we all know everybody else's cards. Our method makes you near undefeatable. It's actually pretty fun to do it like that, but we feel like we've truly beat the game.

I prefer games of domination, but stuff like Loaded Question, Cranium and pictionary are always fun party games.

Again, I"ll nearly repeat Arch's list. Risk, Monopoly, Chess, but also Cashflow. Its an "educational" game that I happen to enjoy very much. www.richdad.com

Monopoly is among one of my favorite. but you have to admit, all other board games suck compared to Battleship.

battleship is fun, but monopoly and lord of the rings trivial pursuit and apples to apples are my favorites. i hate risk, because i am horrible at strategy. oh yeah, arch, if you don't mind my asking, what is your "method" that you use in clue?

Risk is fun and Stratego would definitely come close if you could play it with more players. Probably my favorite board game is Careers (the original version).

I don't know what my favorite is. Our family enjoys the Cranium games. I like scrabble and chess. But haven't played either of them in years. LOTR Trivial Pursuit is pretty fun.

We have some really bad kid games which I can't stand playing.

Battleship is a fun game.

Scrabble is a classic game for my wife and I. For her birthday 3 1/2 years ago, I made her a complete set of metal Scrabble tiles. It took a *really* long time, but I think it was well worth it. They look really cool, and have great heft to them.

Carcassonne is another one we've enjoyed -- we find it more casual than Settlers of Catan.

As others have mentioned, Risk and Chess are classics. Last year I got into Go a little bit, and I've really grown to like that game. It's so simple, yet it's such an immense problem it's just orders of magnitude harder for a computer to play than chess. It's very tactics oriented rather than being dependent on specific strategy, and the parallels to real-life warfare seem much closer.

I think that gaming is at its best when it's a social event that draws people together, and I think computer games could stand to learn a lot from board games in this regard.

I could echo everyone's posts so far with big pluses to Risk and Stratego but my wife and I also enjoy Zombies!!!. It's an awesome game with "tiles" instead of a game board so the game is different everytime. We've got all the expansion packs and card updates!

How could I forget Scrabble! What a simple, but thought provoking, game.

I'm going to have to look into some of these other board games (like Zombies and Carcassonne). Another one I've played and enjoyed was called Aggravation which is played with marbles similar to Parchisi. It's an older game so it may be called something else now.

The Hotel board game is the best, of that type, I have played, next to monopoly.
scrabble is also fun. There's computer version of it:

yes, i should. that looks quite interesting. btw cohort, i fixed (in my quote of you) your typographical errors (otherwise known as "typos"). if you don't like that, i will change it back.
[edit]i just remembered one more game. it's called heroclix. it's not a "board" game, in that it uses a large paper board (about 3.5*3.5 feet).
